Another Strategic Product

Dongkuk Steel has developed earthquake-resistant bars in coil for the first time in Korea. Their commercial production will start this month.

Dongkuk Steel has developed earthquake-resistant bars in coil for the first time in Korea, seeking to capture the growing demand for the new product.

The steelmaker announced on September 10 that it has completed the development of "C13 SD400S" and "C13 SD500S," earthquake-proof bars in coil and will start full commercial production this month.

An earthquake-proof bar in coil is a new-concept reinforcing rod that combines the high yield strength of an earthquake-resistant reinforcing rod and the efficient processability of a bar in coil. Dongkuk Steel has been producing only straight earthquake-resistant reinforcing rods because it has been difficult to uniformly apply the high yield strength and elongation of the earthquake-resistant reinforcing rod to long bars in coil.

However, Dongkuk Steel succeeded in the development of bars in coil with proper properties against earthquakes by applying various materials and testing parts. Compared with linear earthquake-resistant bars, earthquake-proof bars in coil can be efficiently processed without producing waste. It is possible to process themwith current equipment without importing any additional equipment. To top it off, earthquake-proof bars in coil is easy to load compared to straight bars so they can save users logistics cost.

Dongkuk Steel delivered its first volume of earthquake-proof bars in coil to the construction site of POSCO Engineering and Construction's Songdo Triple Tower on August 28., "We are planning to sharpen our sales competitiveness by designating earthquake-resistant bars as our strategic products as the anti-earthquake steel product market grows every year," a Dongkuk Steel official said.
