Technical Glitches

Kakao Talk, Korea’s top mobile messenger application, resumed service 2 hours after its technical glitches.

Kakao Corp. announced that it fixed some technical glitches related to KakatoTalk, KakaoGame, KakaoStory, and other services, which started at 8:30 am on December 9.

The error in the KakaoTalk server was corrected at 9:20 am, and other technical glitches that occurred in other services were also addressed at 10:20 am.

In total, Kakao Talk has encountered four service glitches in the latter half of this year. The phenomenon is due to the fact that inadequate infrastructure cannot accommodate sharp increases in usage over short periods of time in addition to the normal huge volume of user traffic it handles. In response, the company has been trying to setup a dual server system at an Internet data center in Busan City since early this year.

An official at Kakao said, “Today’s error occurred due to unsteady connections caused by problems with network equipment,” adding, “The resumption of Kakao services was delayed owing to problems in a non-dualized server at the Busan Internet data center.”
