The Samsung Galaxy S10 is expected to debut next year in three different forms and its fingerprint scanner is likely to adopt Fingerprint On Display (FOD), according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

According to his recent report, the Galaxy S10 is likely to come with 5.8-, 6.1- and 6.4-inch displays and the latter two are likely to use FOD for fingerprint recognition. Existing Galaxy smartphones’ optical fingerprint scanners function only when a user touches a certain part with his or her finger and the accuracy of the recognition depends on the angle of contact and so on. The new scanner, however, is expected to use an ultrasonic recognition technique so that it can be hidden under the screen or placed on one side of the device.

In addition, according to his report, components of the scanner of the Galaxy S10 will be supplied by Qualcomm and manufactured by Taiwanese GIS and Chinese O-film.

“Samsung Electronics will supply 60 million units of those that have the ultrasonic fingerprint recognition feature from next year, including approximately 40 million units of the two higher Galaxy S10 models and 14 million to 16 million units of the Galaxy Note 10, which is expected to be released in the second half of next year,” the analyst explained.
