Huawei of China is forecast to surpass Apple, taking second place in the global smartphone market in the second quarter of this year.
Global market researchers TrendForce and DRAMExchange predicted that Huawei's market share would rise to 12% in the second quarter from 11.7% in the first quarter, outstripping Apple. Samsung Electronics's market share is expected to drop from 21.4% in the first quarter to 20.4% in the second quarter.
According to the report, Huawei's output in the first quarter increased 10% year-on-year. Apple, which ranked second with a market share of 16.4% in the first quarter, is expected to place third by sliding to 11.4% in the second quarter.
According to the report, Samsung Electronics’ smartphone production in the first quartershrank about 9% from the same period of last year. DRAM Exchange said that Samsung Electronics was facing a price war with Chinese brands and expected that in the second quarter, Samsung Electronics would produce 73 million smartphones similar to the first quarter
