On April 3, LG CNS launched the FACTOVA smart factory platform incorporating artificial intelligence (AI), big data and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The platform realizes an intelligent factory by means of the different types of technology applied to every process for product planning and manufacturing and logistics. For example, its AI- and big data-based market analysis, design automation and virtual simulation can shorten the time required for product planning, which takes at least six months in most cases, to a couple of months. Likewise, its industrial IoT technology collects data in real time and enables an immediate response to abnormalities whereas facility data collection in conventional manufacturing processes takes at least one day.

With the platform, quality control accuracy and production efficiency also can be maximized by means of deep learning of the DAP AI big data platform of LG CNS. In logistics processes, real-time locating and RFID based on the IoT allow every step to be monitored and managed with more efficiency and risks such as delivery delay and omission can be dealt with in an appropriate way. Furthermore, an optimal inventory level can be maintained based on intelligent automation and more accurate inventory management becomes possible for a higher level of logistics efficiency.

“FACTOVA is a comprehensive manufacturing ICT platform in which LG Group subsidiaries’ 20 years of manufacturing know-hows are integrated,” LG CNS explained, adding, “With FACTOVA, client-specific manufacturing environments can be created from more than 40 successful cases of smart factory operation by the subsidiaries like LG Chem, LG Display, LG Innotek and LG Electronics.”
