Approximately four out of ten major domestic companies are using generative artificial intelligence (AI) at the company level for their operations, according to a survey result.

The Federation of Korean Industries announced on March 21st the results of a survey titled “Current State and Perception of AI Adoption in Major Companies,” which showed that 38% of the responding companies have already implemented generative AI, like ChatGPT, for office workers at the company level. The survey included the top 100 companies by sales revenue and major members of the Federation, with 50 companies responding.

Among the companies that have not yet adopted AI at the company level, 41.9% cited “concerns about information leakage” as the primary reason. This was followed by “need for preparation time” at 29%, and “not necessary due to the nature of the work” at 16.1%. Among the companies not currently using AI, 29% stated they plan to adopt AI in the future, while 71% (44% of all responding companies) said they have no plans to adopt AI going forward.

Of the companies that have adopted AI, 85.7% believe that “AI has reduced the time required for tasks.” Only 14.3% responded that “AI has not reduced the time required for tasks.” Additionally, companies that have adopted AI generally expect that while job displacement may occur due to the introduction and expansion of AI, the creation of new jobs through the acquisition of specialized personnel and expansion of work areas will lead to no significant change in overall employment.
