Sebastian Seung, former President in charge of global research & development cooperation at Samsung Research, has left Samsung Electronics.

Seung, a world-renowned AI scholar who has been leading the AI strategy formulation at Samsung Electronics, has been listed as resigned in the company’s business report for 2023, filed on March 12, according to the report’s reference date at the end of last year.

Seung, a global scholar pioneering brain-based AI research and a professor at Princeton University, was recruited in 2018 as a Chief Research Scientist at Samsung Research and was promoted to President in 2020, taking charge of Samsung Research.

AI is one of the future growth engines that Chairman Lee is directly managing. Seung has played a role in devising Samsung Electronics’ AI strategy and advising on advanced research to discover future growth engines.

After resigning, Seung is known to have returned to his professorship at Princeton University in the U.S.
