CJ Logistics announced on March 13 that it has received the Center of Excellence for Independent Validators Lithium Batteries (CEIV Lithium Batteries) from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The CEIV Lithium Battery Certification is an international standard certification issued by the IATA to companies with international transportation expertise and excellence by carefully evaluating various items such as lithium battery transportation procedures, facilities, equipment, and regulations.

Lithium batteries are extremely difficult to transport and their transportation requires strict management due to the risk of fire and explosion. Therefore, battery manufacturers demand international standard certifications when selecting logistics companies such as forwarders, shipping companies, and airlines.

The certification is expected to further increase CJ Logistics’ battery logistics capabilities. CJ Logistics has trained specialized personnel for the transportation of lithium batteries through the IATA’s training program and has established separate handling procedures and standards to enhance the safety of its logistics operations. With this, the Korean logistics giant will pump up its efforts to win transportation orders from battery makers and strengthen its position as a specialized logistics company in the global secondary battery market amid the diffusion of electric vehicles.

“The rapid growth of the mobility market of eco-friendly bicycles, drones, and ships based on eco-friendly power sources in addition to electric vehicles is fueling companies’ and investors’ interest in the battery logistics market,” said Jang Young-ho, head of the IFS Division at CJ Logistics. “We will provide differentiated logistics services based on our high-level expertise and reliability and actively expand our high-value-added logistics business.”
