Coupang announced on March 11 that it will launch the Rocket Cross-Border Shopping Service in the cross-border shopping of goods from Japan, after the United States, China, and Hong Kong.

Rocket Direct is a cross-border shopping service provided by Coupang. Coupang has been expanding its service for purchases of goods from the United States in 2017, China in 2021, and Hong Kong in 2022.

Koreans’ cross-border purchases of goods from Japan grew 11 percent year on year in 2023, according to the Korean Statistical Information Service. Their hot categories included fashion, food, and household goods, with food growing 45 percent year on year.

By extending the Rocket Cross-Border Shopping Service to cover Japan, Coupang will offer food and snacks from Nissin, Meiji, LeTao, and AGF, and also household goods and beauty brands such as Senka, Biore, Fino, Tsubaki, and P&G, which are highly popular among Korean consumers.

“We are expanding our Rocket Cross-Border Shopping Service areas for consumers who have trouble buying goods from Japan,” a Coupang representative said. “We will continue to introduce a variety of global products based on Coupang’s competitiveness in cross-border shopping services, including reasonable prices and fast delivery.”
