SK ecoplant has partnered with the global resort company Therme Group to advance the development of a European-style spa and resort in Songdo.

On March 8, SK ecoplant announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Therme Group for the resort development and construction, as well as technology exchange, on the Incheon Golden Harbor site, during a ceremony held at its headquarters in Jongno District, Seoul.

The event was attended by about 20 officials from both companies, including Park Kyung-il, president of SK ecoplant, and Robert Hanea, chairman of Therme Group.

Therme Group, headquartered in Austria, is a global resort company specializing in wellness spa and resort businesses. It currently operates three facilities in Germany and one in Romania, with developments underway in the U.K. and Canada.

Through this MOU, both companies will pursue the creation of a large-scale resort featuring spas and water parks on a 990,000 m² site in Golden Harbor, located behind the Incheon Port International Passenger Terminal in Songdo, Incheon.

SK ecoplant will be responsible for permits, design support, and construction once its participation in the project is confirmed. Therme Group Korea, the Korean branch of Therme Group, will oversee the overall development and operation. The planned total project cost is approximately 700 billion won, with the construction cost estimated at about 300 billion won.

The two companies also plan to exchange and collaborate on technologies and solutions in the fields of environment, energy, and architecture, and intend to apply these to a smart residential complex pilot project in Romania. Therme Group is considering applying these technologies to “Therme City,” which it is planning to develop in Romania.

President Park Kyung-il stated, “Through this agreement, we will strengthen our ties with Therme Group and generate synergy in the global market through active collaboration.”
