LG Energy Solution announced on March 10 that it is collaborating with Qualcomm to develop advanced Battery Management System (BMS) diagnostic solutions for next-generation electric vehicles. Through this partnership, LG Energy Solution plans to develop a more sophisticated BMS solution by integrating its BMS diagnostic software with specific features of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis.

LG Energy Solution is pushing forward with the development of a BMS diagnostic solution that supports AI hardware and software solutions embedded in the Snapdragon Digital Chassis. Unlike the existing BMS software that ran on low-spec hardware, the newly developed BMS diagnostic solution will leverage the computing performance of the System-on-Chip (SoC) within the high-performance Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform. This enhancement will increase computing power by more than 80 times, enabling the execution of more sophisticated battery algorithms in real-time and the implementation of advanced BMS features without the need for server communication.

An official from LG Energy Solution expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “This cooperation will enable the development of various solutions directly linked to vehicle driving information and real-time battery status diagnostics, creating a differentiated customer experience.”

Previous battery diagnostic algorithms mostly predicted conditions not extracted from actual batteries, leading to unexpected errors and low applicability in real usage environments. However, LG Energy Solution has accumulated unique technological leadership in battery management through continuous research and development (R&D) and production experience over 30 years, and through collaboration with various clients.

In fact, LG Energy Solution has secured a unique battery analysis algorithm technology based on the cross-analysis of data from approximately 100,000 electric vehicles and the direct analysis of more than 10,000 batteries exposed to real usage environments. With this collaboration with Qualcomm, LG Energy Solution anticipates providing its clients, including global automobile manufacturers, with more refined and advanced battery diagnostic solutions.
