Samsung Display CEO Choi Joo-sun has expressed confidence that Korea will reclaim the top spot in the global display market by 2027. Speaking to reporters before the Korean Display Industry Association’s general meeting at Lotte Hotel World on March 7, Choi emphasized the need for focus and specialization in research and development (R&D) to compete with Chinese rivals.

He highlighted that Chinese display manufacturers are shifting from LCD to OLED technology, acknowledging the limitations of LCD. With Korea’s early adoption of OLED technology, Choi is optimistic about regaining global leadership in the display market by 2027. He also foresees the continued dominance of K-Display in IT applications like laptops and tablets driven by OLED technology.

Choi emphasized the competitive edge Korean companies have over Chinese firms due to the increasing technical requirements as IT and panel sizes grow. He anticipates a steady rise in the IT OLED market, though it may require more time compared to the smartphone segment. In his inaugural speech, Choi stressed the importance of securing next-generation technologies such as foldable, rollable, OLED, and transparent displays, and called for a legal safety net to protect technological assets and industry competitiveness.
