The Incheon Port Authority (IPA) announced that foreign shipping firm Maersk has launched the PH5 service at Incheon Port on March 4.

PH5 is a weekly service that departs from Incheon Port and travels to Vietnam and Thailand via China. Five vessels ranging from 2,544 to 2,826 TEU will be used, with the first vessel, the Maersk Ningbo, arriving at Hanjin Incheon Container Terminal (HJIT) at 7:30 a.m. on March 4.

The main ports of call are located in China, Thailand, and Vietnam. The service is expected to boost trade between Incheon and the Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai regions.

The IPA expects the service to increase cargo volumes of raw materials, auto parts, daily necessities, furniture, and small appliances by more than 60,000 TEUs per year.

“This new service will increase services between Incheon and Vietnam and Thailand to 29, enabling small and medium-sized enterprises to expand their export markets and expanding options for shippers and forwarders in the Seoul metropolitan area,” said Kim Sang-ki, vice president of port operations at the IPA.
