KT announced its vision to transform into an AICT company, combining its telecommunications capabilities with IT and AI, at MWC 2024, marking the start of its full-fledged leap into becoming a leading enterprise in global AI and ICT.

At the recently concluded MWC 2024, KT received high praise for showcasing the future of everyday life transformed through next-generation network technologies and AI innovations under the theme “KT, the Digital Innovation Partner Shaping the Future.” During the event, key figures from the mobile industry, including Mats Granryd, Secretary-general of the GSM Association (GSMA), and executives from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Qualcomm, Ericsson, and Shinhan Financial Group, visited the exhibition.

In the NEXT 5G zone, KT displayed future network technologies, including communication network construction technology for future modes of transportation such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM), quantum cryptography, and power saving. In the AI LIFE zone, various applications of mega-scale AI, including AI semiconductors incorporating Large Language Models (LLM) and cases of Sovereign AI, were introduced.

KT also achieved success in its global communication efforts. Kim Young-seop, the only GSMA board member from South Korea, represented the country’s telecommunications operators at the CEO Board Meeting, discussing ICT issues with global telecommunications leaders. Oh Seung-phil, chief technology innovation officer (CTO), participated as a speaker at the CTO GTI Summit Keynote held on Feb. 27.

Furthermore, KT has signed a contract with GSMA to host the M360 APAC in Seoul in 2024, where it plans to share its innovation achievements as an AICT company. Since 2013, M360 has been an annual event organized by GSMA to discuss the mobile industry’s current issues across Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia, including small-scale exhibitions by participating companies to explore the latest mobile technologies and trends.

This year’s M360 APAC Seoul will focus on “Advancing Digital Nations with AI,” with leaders from major domestic and international ICT companies, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA), and key figures from academia discussing the future of the digital era, including digital transformation (DX) across industries, Generative AI, 6th generation mobile communications (6G), and the metaverse.
