Starbucks Korea has halted sales of its sparkling water Perrier following a quality control controversy.

Starbucks Korea announced on Feb. 26 that it has preemptively suspended sales of Perrier from Feb. 1 following quality control issues raised by the brand’s overseas manufacturer.

Perrier is a sparkling water product made in France and holds No. 1 market share in the global sparkling water market.

Last month, an overseas media outlet reported that global food giant Nestle used a water treatment method that violated French regulations in producing Perrier.

Starbucks Korea plans to stop selling Perrier until it confirms that the sparkling water is 100 percent safe to drink. Starbucks Korea is also in the process of re-testing products currently in stock.
