HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) recently signed a contract on the construction of four 174,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with an Oceania-based shipping company.

The LNG carriers are valued at US$270 million per vessel, which is US$5 million more than the previous highest price of US$265 million.

The four vessels will be built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province, Korea and delivered to the client by January 2028. The order is conditional and will be disclosed separately when not finalized.

HD KSOE has secured orders for a total of six LNG carriers since the beginning of this year, claiming the No. 1 spot in the LNG carrier market leader. The yearly breakdown of the shipbuilder’s order intake shows 21 vessels in 2020, 25 vessels in 2021, 45 vessels in 2022, and 39 vessels in 2023.

HD KSOE has received orders for a total of 46 vessels, including one offshore plant. They are valued at US$5.98 billion. This is 44.3 percent of the company’s annual order target of US$13.5 billion for 2024.

By vessel type, the orders include six LNG carriers, 15 petrochemical carriers, 19 LPG-ammonia carriers, one ethane carrier, two liquefied natural gas carriers and two tankers.
