The Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) announced on Feb. 26 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Feb. 23 with the Road Development Authority (RDA) of Mauritius for the consulting services related to the maintenance of the A1-M1 cable-stayed bridge as part of a follow-up initiative of the Mauritius Traffic Congestion Alleviation Project.

The Mauritius Traffic Congestion Alleviation Project has been ongoing since 2016 under an agreement between the two governments. As part of the project, KEC has been responsible for overall project management, including the enhancement of roundabouts, as well as the design, supervision, contracting, and management of the construction of the A1-M1 connecting road.

The latest agreement was reached based on the recognition of the KEC’s past performance and technical capabilities in fulfilling its project responsibilities.

In the future, the KEC plans to jointly develop new future projects in Mauritius, such as the construction of the M5 highway and consulting services for road asset management. Additionally, there are plans for mutual cooperation in exchanging knowledge and information in the field of roads and transportation.

President Ham Jin-gyu stated, “We will leverage the KEC’s experience in highway maintenance and utilize cutting-edge technologies such as cable bridge monitoring systems and drones to ensure the optimal maintenance of the A1-M1 Bridge.” He further added, “To facilitate the smooth progress of follow-up projects, we will strengthen our cooperative relationship with Mauritius.”
