Cell Biotech announced on Feb. 22 that it has obtained the highest level of safety recognition from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) certification, for 11 Korean probiotic strains. Through this validation, Cell Biotech has added certification for 11 Korean probiotic strains, making it the company with the largest number of FDA GRAS-registered probiotics in the world.

The certified probiotics are patented strains that are used as the main ingredients in all products of South Korea’s representative probiotic brand, DUOLAC. Cell Biotech, which has been researching Korean probiotics with 47 microbiology experts, including 16 PhDs, over the past 29 years, has proven the safety of K-probiotics in the global market through this certification achievement.

As a leading South Korean company that has been exporting Korean probiotics to more than 40 countries worldwide, Cell Biotech has been the top exporter of probiotics in South Korea for ten consecutive years. In Denmark, the home of probiotics, the brand has celebrated its 10th anniversary and secured the second position in market share, while also establishing overseas subsidiaries as bridgeheads for exports to Europe.

Jung Myung-joon, the CEO of Cell Biotech, stated, “As a specialist company that has been exclusively researching Korean probiotics for 29 years, we are confident that this FDA GRAS certification will be the most powerful weapon leading the globalization of Korean probiotics. With a sense of mission and patience, we were finally able to obtain the highest number of certifications in the world.”
