Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on Feb. 7 that it has been awarded the highest grade in the climate change response sector, “Leadership A,” by the Korean Committee of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a global sustainable management evaluation organization.

Leadership A is a grade awarded to only 300 companies, representing 1.5 percent of the global 23,200 evaluation subjects that responded to the CDP assessment last year. Among domestic construction companies, Hyundai E&C is the only one to receive this grade.

CDP requests information disclosure from major global companies regarding their carbon management strategies for climate change response, risk management capabilities, and efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It publishes reports analyzing this information and makes them publicly available to investors and stakeholders.

CDP response forms are provided to financial institutions worldwide and utilized as investment guidelines. They are recognized as one of the most credible indicators in sustainability evaluations, along with the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).

Hyundai E&C received high scores across all areas including climate change response strategy, greenhouse gas reduction efforts, and climate change scenario analysis in the CDP climate change response assessment.

Hyundai E&C operates an environmental management team under the safety business support division dedicated to environmental and energy management. It focuses on various greenhouse gas reduction efforts such as expanding the scope of greenhouse gas emissions verification and enhancing the greenhouse gas accounting system.

A Hyundai E&C official stated, “The achievement of the Leadership A grade demonstrates the company’s proactive efforts in carbon-neutral management and its competitiveness in climate change response. As a global construction company, we will participate in global climate change response efforts and strengthen our capabilities in low-carbon construction to build the foundation for sustainable management.”
