Samsung SDI has commenced the full-scale shipment of its “dream battery.” the solid-state battery.
At the performance report meeting held on Jan. 30, Park Jong-sun, vice president of Samsung SDI’s Large Business Division, announced, “During the fourth quarter of last year, we started shipping samples produced at the S-line to customers.”
The solid-state battery, which substitutes the conventional liquid electrolyte with a solid, is known for its lower risk of fire compared to lithium-ion batteries. Samsung SDI began sample production at its solid-state battery pilot line (S-line) located in its Suwon research center in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, in the second half of last year.
Samsung SDI is also initiating mass production in the Americas of its P6 product, which boasts over 10% higher energy density compared to existing P5 products.
Additionally, Samsung SDI is expanding its new orders using innovative products such as the Samsung Battery Box and preparing Lithium Iron Phosphate products to meet market demands.
