HD Hyundai announced on Jan. 17 that its Vice Chairman Chung Ki-sun attended the Supply Chain & Transport Governors and Oil & Gas Governors group at the Davos Forum in Switzerland to discuss decarbonization initiatives and cooperation.

The Supply Chain & Transportation Governors is a group of CEOs from more than 20 leading global companies including A.P. Moeller Maersk, PSA International, Volvo, and DHL. During the meeting, Chung discussed ways to promote collaboration and decarbonization in the supply and transportation industry.

In particular, Chung met with Robert Maersk Uggla, chairman of Maersk, to solidify their cooperation on eco-friendly ships. HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding affiliate, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, delivered the world’s first eco-friendly methanol-powered container carrier to Maersk last year.

Vice Chairman Chung also emphasized decarbonization at CES 2024 in Las Vegas last week. “We will build a hydrogen energy ecosystem that encompasses the entire planet, from the sea to the land,” he said in his CES 2024 keynote. “We will create a global decarbonized energy value chain for the future.”

Chung also met with Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir Technologies, an American big data company that has been working with HD Hyundai since 2022, to discuss cooperation. HD Hyundai is working with Palantir to build a smart shipyard based on artificial intelligence (AI) and announced the completion of the first phase of the Future of Shipyard (FOS) project in December 2023.

After the Davos Forum, Chung will visit HD Hyundai Electric’s research center in Zurich, Switzerland, to encourage Korean and foreign employees working there.
