SK telecom announced on Jan. 16th the commercial application of its Deep Network AI (DNA) solution to operational networks. This AI-powered technology enables precise analysis of network conditions in three-dimensional environments.

Traditional network analysis, mostly based on two-dimensional outdoor spaces with latitude and longitude, cannot accurately analyze network experiences and quality in three-dimensional environments such as inside buildings, roads, and subways where customers realistically live and move.

To overcome this, SK telecom developed “DNA,” which analyzes and visualizes network situations in three-dimensional spaces using AI technology. DNA can comprehensively understand specific building spaces or moving spaces like subways, railways, and roads, analyzing network traffic, the network speed and coverage experienced by customers, and customer complaints.

DNA is a fusion of AI-based network quality analysis, indoor positioning, and mobility analysis technologies developed by SK telecom. The company plans to improve network operation efficiency by precisely analyzing Time, Place, and Occasion (TPO) and finely tuning network quality with DNA.

Currently, SK telecom is applying DNA analysis to over 70% of commercial buildings, subways, railways, and roads in the metropolitan area. They have observed over a 60% improvement in the time taken to detect network degradation compared to previous methods.

SK telecom intends to continuously expand the areas analyzed by DNA, advancing from recognizing current on-site conditions to predicting future communication situations. Additionally, they plan to refine their AI model through analysis using digital twins, which closely resemble the real world where communication equipment is installed.

SK telecom also plans to showcase DNA utilization cases abroad at the upcoming MWC 2024 exhibition and actively seek business cooperation with global partners using Network AI technology.
