Hak Cheol Shin, CEO of LG Chem, has been selected as one of the top 100 economic leaders representing the World Economic Forum (WEF). At this year’s forum, CEO Shin will meet with global clients and partners to discuss collaboration strategies for managing the global supply chain and overcoming the climate crisis.
LG Chem announced on the 15th that starting from January 15th to 19th, during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting (commonly known as the Davos Forum) held in Davos, Switzerland, CEO Hak Cheol Shin will commence his activities with the International Business Council (IBC).
This year, CEO Hak Cheol Shin received official invitations from both the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council (IBC), leading to his selection as a formal member of the IBC. The IBC is a consultative body composed of approximately 100 representatives from various sectors of the economy. It is recognized as an advisory body driving the World Economic Forum and a gathering of the most influential leaders in the economic sphere.
The IBC includes prominent global business figures such as Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Andrew R. Jassy, CEO of Amazon; Amin H. Nasser, CEO of Aramco; Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman of Sony Group; and Martin Lau, Chairman of Tencent, among others.
Since his first attendance at the World Economic Forum in 2021, CEO Hak Cheol Shin has been recognized for his contributions to fostering global supply chain cooperation and addressing climate change. In 2023, he became the first Korean corporate leader to be appointed as the chair of the Davos Forum’s ‘Chemical & Advanced Materials Industry Governors,’ continuing his active involvement in the forum.
The World Economic Forum expressed their honor in inviting CEO Shin as an IBC member, stating, “We are honored to invite CEO Hak Cheol Shin as a member of the IBC. We look forward to his leadership in driving change across global value chains and creating a collective impact.”
The theme of this year’s Davos Forum is ‘Rebuilding Trust,’ focusing on restoring trust between nations and societies shattered by global crises.
CEO Hak Cheol Shin will meet with key clients to strengthen partnerships in three major growth areas: sustainability in business, battery materials, and global pharmaceuticals. He plans to discuss renewable energy transition strategies and decarbonization collaboration with global integrated energy companies, research and development of next-generation battery materials with battery material firms, and collaborate with reagent and equipment companies in the life sciences sector. In total, CEO Shin is scheduled to engage with over ten companies in these exchanges.
In addition, CEO Hak Cheol Shin will participate in the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, a group consisting of over 120 global companies, including BASF, Volvo, Coca-Cola, and SAP. He plans to discuss effective response strategies to the global climate crisis.
