SK telecom announced on Jan. 14 that its President Ryu Young-sang and key executives participated in the world’s largest IT and consumer electronics show, CES 2024, which concluded on Jan. 12. They focused on expanding collaborations with global partners based on the company’s AI Pyramid strategy.

The AI Pyramid strategy is a staged approach that combines the refinement of AI technology and the creation of AI services to strengthen customer relationships, following a self-strengthening and AI alliance-centered cooperation model. The strategy aims to innovate across all industries and aspects of life centered on three main areas: AI infrastructure, AIX, and AI services.

President Ryu Young-sang sought collaboration based on the smart wearable device “AI PIN” during a meeting with Humane, a startup specializing in AI-based devices and software platforms. Humane, recognized for its potential and having attracted investments from major international players like Microsoft, Qualcomm, Sam Altman, Softbank, and also Korea-based SK networks, has gained attention with its GPT-4 based conversational wearable device AI PIN. This product is leading the on-device AI market, offering features like an AI assistant (PAA), messaging, healthcare, and real-time translation.

SK telecom plans to collaborate to enhance the competitiveness of on-device AI, including the domestic market entry of AI PIN and synergy creation with A-dot (A.).

Furthermore, SK telecom introduced its X Caliber technology and application cases to Vetology, a top-tier company in the U.S. veterinary X-ray sector. SK telecom anticipates that cooperation with Vetology will upgrade the diagnostic accuracy and coverage of X Caliber, aiming to become the global No. 1 business in the AI diagnosis field.

Ryu, along with key executives from SK telecom and Sapeon, discussed collaboration with Supermicro, a global server manufacturer, to expand the sales of Sapeon’s recently unveiled AI semiconductor X330. SK telecom and Sapeon plan to increase global sales of X330 through strategic collaboration, including installing X330 in AI servers produced by Supermicro, and are also considering cooperation in future next-generation AI Data Center-related businesses.

The solidarity of the K-AI Alliance, formed by SK telecom, was further strengthened at CES 2024. Ryu met with key members of the K-AI Alliance, including Moloco, Phantom AI, MakinaRocks, and Sapeon, to discuss intensively the future enhancement of cooperation and expansion of synergies.
