The heads of the four major Korean conglomerates are expected not to participate in this year’s Davos Forum.

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo will not attend the 2024 Davos Forum, which will run in Davos, Switzerland, for five days from March 15, according to sources on Jan. 11.

Last year, all four attended the Davos Forum. They attended the Korea Night Event organized by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry as civilian diplomats in a bid to publicize Busan’s plan to host the World Expo in 2030.

At the time, SK Chairman Chey Tae-won orchestrated the event as chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and served as a bridge between the Korean government and companies and influential foreign figures. Chairmen Chung Eui-sun, Koo Kwang-mo, and Lee Jae-yong also attended the event and continued their collaboration with global CEOs. Lee Jae-yong returned to Davos for the first time in nearly 15 years in 2007 when he served as the executive vice president of Samsung Electronics.
