Doolim-Yaskawa, a leader in the robot-based automation industry, is supplying a painting automation solution to Hyundai Motor Group's US car factory. Last month, they completed the Off-Line Test (OLT) of their robot system in their own factory and announced that they are currently working on a project to implement this solution in the US.
The painting process is a crucial step in car manufacturing, as it is essential for protecting the vehicle body and giving it an aesthetic and premium finish.
Following the robot replacement project for the painting process at Hyundai Motor's Alabama factory and Kia Motors' Georgia factory, Doolim-Yaskawa will sequentially supply a robot automation system consisting of a total of 212 robots for the painting, sealing, and quality inspection processes at Hyundai Motor Group's Meta Plant America (HMGMA), a dedicated electric vehicle factory in the US.
In particular, HMGMA, which will serve as a stepping stone for Hyundai Motor Group's strategy in the US electric vehicle market, will not only have painting and sealing robots but also incorporate Doolim-Yaskawa's cutting-edge technologies such as quality inspection and sanding automation systems, opening up new horizons for automation.
As Doolim-Yaskawa and Hyundai Motor Group have been closely cooperating to prepare for advanced painting factory automation in domestic and overseas production bases, there are high expectations for a higher level of automotive painting factory automation.
HMGMA, the electric vehicle-dedicated factory in Georgia, USA, is a factory with an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles on a site of 11.83 million square meters, and it is scheduled to enter full-scale production as early as the second half of this year.
This large-scale robot supply contract for HMGMA was achieved with the proven technical capabilities of Doolim-Yaskawa, along with extensive lab testing, on-site issue resolution, and research and development efforts to realize new automation.
A Doolim-Yaskawa official stated, 'This large-scale order has significant meaning as we supply various automation solutions to the new EV-dedicated factory aimed at achieving a new level of automation.' They also added, 'We will make continuous efforts to provide the highest quality and performance to meet the customer's transition to electric vehicles and the high demand for automation.'
