LG Display is set to unveil a slew of OLED strategy products boasting unique technological advancements at the world’s largest electronics and IT trade show, CES 2024. The company will showcase large OLED technologies surpassing current limitations in image quality and performance, along with next-generation vehicle display solutions optimized for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs).

According to LG Display from Jan. 9 to 12, LG Display will operate both a main booth and a dedicated vehicle display booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) North Hall and West Hall, under the theme “A Better Future.” This theme reflects LG Display’s commitment to transforming customers’ daily lives with diverse display solutions leveraging advanced OLED technology.

At the North Hall main booth, LG Display plans to reveal a new OLED TV panel that transcends the current boundaries of OLED image quality. The product, which leverages a decade of OLED technological expertise, features the enhanced META Technology, significantly improving image quality compared to existing models. First introduced last year, META Technology combines a Micro Lens Array (MLA) and a Brightness Enhancement Algorithm to produce the brightest screens among current OLED TV panels.

In the vehicle display booth, LG Display will exhibit Pillar-to-Pillar (P2P) display solutions optimized for SDVs using differentiated technologies like POLED, Advanced Thin OLED (ATO), and Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon (LTPS) LCDs. The P2P concept involves ultra-large panels that span the entire dashboard from the driver’s digital instrument cluster to the front passenger side.

The ultra-large P2P POLED integrates 12.3-inch instrument panel and 34-inch central screen POLEDs seamlessly, creating a luxurious design that appears to cover the entire dashboard. The 48-inch P2P LTPS LCD offers a massive screen filling the dashboard, allowing passengers to easily access vehicle information and enjoy various entertainment features.

LG Display will also introduce Sightline Management Technology (SPM), which adjusts the viewing angle during driving to prevent the driver from seeing the passenger-side screen. Additionally, products like the 17-inch Foldable OLED for rear-seat entertainment (RSE) and 18-inch Slidable OLED installed in the ceiling allow users to utilize cabin space more efficiently by deploying the screen only when needed.

The company’s proprietary Thin Actuator Sound Solutions for vehicles, a thin-film technology, is significantly lighter (by 30%) and thinner (10%) compared to traditional car speakers. These sound solutions can be installed in various places like displays, ceilings, and floors, offering rich, immersive sound.

LG Display is also planning to showcase various new technologies, such as Under Display, which hides the camera within the screen for design differentiation, and Decorative Film, which makes the display resemble materials like wood or carbon when inactive, enhancing aesthetic appeal.

For gaming enthusiasts, LG Display will unveil a high-performance 27-inch QHD gaming OLED panel capable of an unprecedented 480 Hz refresh rate, along with a full lineup of gaming OLEDs ranging from 20 to 40 inches. The 27-inch 480 Hz QHD gaming OLED panel displays 480 images per second, ensuring smooth and clear content even during fast screen transitions for an optimal gaming experience.

The 34 and 39-inch panels will offer an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio for a more comfortable gaming experience, while the 31.5-inch panel features UHD (3840×2160) resolution for enhanced readability, making it versatile for gaming, office work, and content viewing.

LG Display’s gaming OLED panels, featuring self-emitting pixels, combine high refresh rates, high resolution, and a fast response time (0.03ms) with META Technology for improved image quality. This technology also minimizes the halo effect in dark scenes, enhancing immersion.

The transparent OLED lineup, including 77-inch, 55-inch, and 30-inch models, proposes new retail store concepts, offering unique shopping experiences. Transparent OLEDs, uniquely mass-produced by LG Display, maximize the benefits of self-emitting OLED technology, offering high transparency and precise color reproduction. It’s considered more versatile than traditional LEDs, suitable for indoor use with less heat emission, and can be installed in various spaces like windows, walls, and floors due to its scalability.
