Key Foundry, an 8-inch pure-play foundry semiconductor company acquired by SK hynix, announced on Dec. 3 that it has changed its name to SK keyfoundry.

The updated company name has been in use since Jan. 1, following a recent shareholder meeting approval. SK keyfoundry also completed domestic and international trademark registrations at the end of last year.

SK keyfoundry was established in September 2020 as a spin-off of the foundry division of Magnachip Semiconductor and was incorporated as a subsidiary of SK hynix in August 2022. Following the acquisition, the company has been undergoing a Post-Merger Integration (PMI) process, which included the name change initiative.

Located in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, SK keyfoundry’s fab (semiconductor manufacturing plant) specializes in multi-product small-quantity production. It primarily focuses on contract manufacturing of non-memory semiconductors such as 8-inch wafer-based power semiconductors, display driver ICs (DDI), and microcontroller units (MCU). The company is targeting the automotive and industrial power semiconductor markets. Its production capacity is about 100,000 wafers per month.

To ensure the continuous supply of power semiconductors, SK keyfoundry has initiated the development of gallium nitride processes, often referred to as next-generation power semiconductors. The company is also considering the development of silicon carbide processes.
