For the first time in four years, business leaders from South Korea and China are meeting in Seoul to identify industries for cooperation between the two countries and to discuss future initiatives such as supply chain cooperation and carbon neutrality.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), together with the China Center for International Economic Exchange (CCIEE), hosted the fourth Korea-China Businesspeople and Former Government Officials Dialogue at Grand Walkerhill Hotel in the Gwangjin district of Seoul on Dec. 20.

The Korean side of the dialog was chaired by former Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Il-ho, and included Chey Tae-won, chairman of the KCCI; Chung Eui-sun, chairman of Hyundai Motor Group; Park Seung-hee, president of Samsung Electronics; Seo Jin-woo, vice chairman of SK Group; Myung No-hyun, vice chairman of LS Group; Shin Hyun-woo, president of Hanwha; Lee Dong-hoon, president of SK biopharm; Yoon Chang-ryul, director of the LG Global Strategy Development Institute; Lee Young-woo, CEO of HD Hyundai Cosmo; and Yoon Do-sun, CEO of CJ China.

The Chinese side included 15 representatives from CCIEE including CCIEE Executive Vice Chairman Bi Jingquan and CCIEE Vice Chairman Ning Jizhe; Ma Yongsheng, chairman of China Petrochemical Corporation; Liu Jingzhen, chairman of China National Pharmaceutical Group; and Deng Jianling, president of China Huaneng Group.

“With the rapidly changing global economic environment and China’s rising global status, both countries are faced with structural changes,” former Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said. “Recognizing these changes, both countries should play roles commensurate with their respective status and work together to find new ways to deal with future challenges such as climate change and digital online trade.”

“As close economic and trade partners, China and South Korea have formed a symbiotic relationship for mutual success and win-win growth,” CCIEE Executive Vice Chairman Bi Jingquan said. “We should stabilize industrial supply chains by expanding cooperation in areas such as high-tech manufacturing, new energy-powered vehicles, artificial intelligence, environmental protection, and medical and healthcare, and jointly exploring third country markets through large-scale cooperation in critical areas.”
