SK telecom has executed an organizational restructuring and executive appointment on Dec. 7 as part of its ambitious leap towards becoming a global AI company. Yoo Young-sang has successfully retained his position as the CEO of SK telecom.

In September SK telecom announced its AI Pyramid strategy focusing on three main areas -- AI infrastructure, AIX, and AI services -- to accelerate its transition into a global AI company. The recent organizational reshuffle focuses on establishing four major business units to drive this strategy forward.

The AI Services Business Unit and the Global/AI Tech Business Unit will collaborate with the global PAA to develop a Telco-specialized LLM. They will also support the AIX transformation of existing core businesses, including wireless and wired communication, media, and enterprise sectors. The T-B Customer Business Unit and the T-B Enterprise Business Unit will actively integrate AI across all business areas to discover new growth opportunities.

To aggressively pursue AI solution businesses in the global market, SK telecom has also established a dedicated “top team” organization.

The newly formed Global Solution Office will concentrate internal capabilities related to AI solutions such as AI DC, UAM, AI semiconductors, quantum, and X Caliber, to expand businesses tailored to the global market.

Additionally, the newly established Global Solution Tech will technically support the Global Solution Office to create synergies. This new organization will also lead in supporting the AIX transition of the existing enterprise business.

Furthermore, the Strategy & Development department has been newly established to reinforce the momentum of future growth businesses by integrating overall management and brand strategies with next-generation commerce businesses, including subscriptions (T World), the metaverse, Web3, messaging, and advertising.
