Samsung SDI is accelerating its pursuit of next-generation battery technology by establishing a new development organization aimed at solidifying its technological edge.

On Dec. 7, the industry reported that Samsung SDI has conducted a regular organizational restructuring. Notably, this reorganization included the creation of the All Solid Battery (ASB) Business Advancement Team. Located directly under Samsung SDI's Large Battery Business Division, this team is formed to drive the solid-state battery business actively.

Samsung SDI has previously announced its goal to commercialize solid-state batteries by 2027, a target shared by global battery industry players focusing on developing this technology.

Among the top three battery companies in Korea, Samsung SDI is considered the leader in solid-state battery technology. In March, Samsung SDI became the first in the domestic battery industry to complete a pilot production line for solid-state batteries, covering approximately 6,500 square meters at its Suwon research facility.

Samsung SDI has led the way in technological development, successfully designing and synthesizing solid electrolytes and creating solid-state battery prototypes. The company’s proprietary lithium metal anode-free technology is recognized for achieving the industry’s highest energy density and safety standards. This technology has been featured in the prestigious scientific journal Nature Energy.
