The world's first AI laptop by Samsung

Samsung Electronics is set to unveil the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI) laptop mid-December. LG Electronics and Hewlett-Packard (HP) are also planning to introduce AI laptops and Apple has announced the launch of a new MacBook Pro in South Korea. This sets the stage for a “laptop battle” at the end of the year.

According to industry sources on Dec. 3, Samsung Electronics is set to unveil the flagship laptop Galaxy Book 4 series, featuring Intel’s next-generation “Core Ultra” processor, on or around Dec. 15. The release timing has been advanced by about a month and a half compared to its predecessor, seen as a strategic move to secure the symbolic status of being the “first AI laptop.”

The Core Ultra is the first Intel processor to integrate a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) into its System on Chip (SoC), enabling the processing of multiple AI operations without the need for network connectivity.

In particular, Samsung Electronics appears to apply on-device AI using its proprietary AI model called Samsung Gauss to the Galaxy Book 4 series. On-device AI eliminates the need to transmit collected information to a central server, resulting in faster processing speed and enhanced security. The release of the Galaxy Book 4 series is expected at the end of this month or early next month.

It has been reported that LG Electronics and HP are also preparing AI laptops featuring Core Ultra and are currently considering the timing of their releases.

Apple is set to release the MacBook Pro series featuring the latest “M3” SoC in South Korea. With the tagline “frighteningly fast,” the M3, compared to Apple's first “M1” in-house SoC, boasts a 30% improvement in central processing unit performance cores and a 50% enhancement in efficiency cores. Apple claims that the MacBook Pro with M3 Max is up to 5.5 times faster than Intel-based models and up to 2 times faster than the MacBook Pro 16 with M1 Max.
