Conceptual design of a Hanwha Ocean ammonia carrier

Hanwha Ocean has disclosed on Nov. 27 that it has secured an order for a very large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia carrier from a shipowner in Oceania. The ship, to be constructed at Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje shipyard, is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026.

The contracted vessel, valued at 1.63 trillion won (US$1.255 billion), sets a record for the highest amount for an ammonia carrier. This surpasses the US$1.246 billion order for an ammonia carrier secured on Nov. 14. With this order, Hanwha Ocean has achieved 43% of its annual order target. To date, Hanwha Ocean has recorded orders totaling about US$3 billion, including five liquefied natural gas carriers, five ammonia carriers, and six specialty vessels, totaling 16 ships.
