KEPCO KPS has acquired ISO 27001 certification from British Standards Institution (BSI) headquartered in London. ISO 27001 is the international best practice standard for an information security management system.

KEPCO KPS recently held an ISO 27001 certification awarding ceremony at Innovation Hall in the Gwangju & Jeonnam Collective Innovation City headquarters with officials from certificate authorities, including Maeng Dong-yeol, acting president, and Lee Jong-ho, CEO at BSI Korea, in attendance.

Maeng said, “KEPCO KPS is a state-owned company that is responsible for the maintenance of national electric power facilities so protecting key information assets from cyber attacks is the most important. With the acquisition of the certification, we will make more effort to upgrade our information security management system in order to proactively respond to intelligent and continuous security threats.”

KEPCO KPS has also raised consumer confidence abroad by proving its competence in operation of information security management systems that meet the international standards.

Meanwhile, ISO 27001 is the most authoritative international standards for information security. It suggests requirements for security systems, including information security policy and risk management system, and 114 controls in 14 areas that can be used to reduce information security risks. The certificate is awarded to companies only that pass strict screening by chartered examiners.
