“All-solid-state batteries are different from conventional batteries in terms of materials and process methods, which poses many challenges for battery makers,” said Samsung SDI Vice President Michael Son in a conference call on the morning of Oct. 26. “In the fourth quarter, we will start supplying all-solid-state battery samples to customers and they will begin to prove their performance in earnest.”

“At the same time, we are in talks with a number of automakers about volume production,” Son said. “As all-solid-state batteries hold to securing unrivaled future battery technology, we will continue to prepare for their mass production in 2027.”

“We started sample production at a mass production line at our plant in Cheonan, Korea and have secured a significant yield,” Son said when asked about the development status of a 46-pi cylindrical battery. “We are making satisfactory progress in preparing for full-scale volume production in 2026, and are having discussions with major automakers including GM.”
