A survey found that LG Electronics was the most popular company among Korean consumers in home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. In the TV category, one of the three major home appliances, Samsung Electronics snagged the top spot.
CEO Score, a company data research center, said on Oct. 25 that LG Electronics ranked first with a total of 586 first-ranked products in a survey of 3,600 products in 12 categories in the top 300 of the Naver Shopping rankings for home appliances from Aug. 28 to Sept. 26.
Samsung Electronics came in second with 490 products, and Philips third with 102. The survey covered a total of 5.726 million consumer reviews and ratings from various online shopping platforms including Naver Shopping and Coupang.
LG Electronics was found to be very well received by consumers as it had 124 of the top 300 products in the refrigerator category. In the washer-dryer category, the company had 158, more than half of the total. Many of its products also ranked high – 40 in the vacuum cleaner category and 34 in the seasonal appliance category.
LG Electronics also had the highest average rating. The average rating for LG products was 4.85. Samsung followed with 4.84.
In terms of the number of consumer reviews, Samsung topped the list with 377,000. It was followed by LG Electronics (266,463) and Philips (223,222).
In the so-called “MZ generation appliance” category, which includes air fryers, induction cookers, coffee machines, steam closets, and beer makers, LG Electronics had the edge. Of the 10 items selected as MZ generation appliances based on the results of surveys by the 20s Lab of Unitomorrow, Open Survey, and Gallup, LG Electronics nabbed first place in five categories -- air purifiers, beer makers, dishwashers, clothes dryers, and steam closets.
In the TV category, one of the top three home appliance categories along with the refrigerator and washer categories, Samsung Electronics topped the list with 104 products on the top 300 list. It had 79,485 reviews and a 4.86 rating.
In the refrigerator category, LG Electronics picked up the top spot in terms of the numbers of products and ratings.
A similar case took place in the two million-plus won premium product category. Consumers favored Samsung in TVs but LG Electronics in refrigerators, washers and dryers.
