On Oct. 11, SK Chairman Chey Tae-won met with a visiting U.S. Senate delegation, including Senator Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senate Majority Leader, and five other senators at SK’s Seorin Building. SK Group announced on Oct. 12 that they had exchanged views on a comprehensive range of economic cooperation options.

At the meeting, the U.S. senators stated, “SK serves as a bridge between South Korea and the U.S. and has become a core supplier in diverse fields including semiconductors, batteries, and energy.” They further added, “We will expand our interest and support for SK’s business activities.”

Chairman Chey expressed, “Our investment in key business areas in the U.S. will continue.” He emphasized the necessity of joint responses from various stakeholders in addressing global issues like climate change and digital transformation.

Importantly, concerning the global supply chain issues, Chairman Chey mentioned that he anticipates a profound discussion on solutions to these problems at the 2023 Trans-Pacific Dialogue (TPD) scheduled for December.

The Choi Jong-hyun Academic Institute launched TPD in 2019. It is an intellectual platform where current and former high-ranking officials, world-renowned scholars, think tank members, and business leaders from South Korea, the U.S., and Japan gather to discuss international issues in Northeast Asia and the Pacific region and to seek solutions for economic security cooperation.
