A site in Kokomo, Indiana, the United States has been selected as the home of the second joint venture EV battery plant between Samsung SDI and Stellantis.

Samsung SDI and Stellantis announced on Oct. 11 that they have selected the site for the second plant of their joint venture, StarPlus Energy, near the first plant currently under construction.

The joint venture aims to complete the StarPlus Energy Kokomo Gigafactory with a total capacity of 67 gigawatt hours (GWh). The first unit, with a capacity of 33 GWh, is expected to go live in the first quarter of 2025 and the second unit with 34 GWh in early 2027.

The Starplus Energy Kokomo Gigafactory will be located in the city of Kokomo, which is home to Stellantis’ parts manufacturing plant and is expected to be an outpost for Stellantis’ future electrification strategy.

“This commitment by Stellantis and Samsung SDI will generate hugely positive effects on the city of Kokomo and the state of Indiana for decades to come, doubling investment and decent jobs,” said Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb. “This investment decision will serve as a catalyst for Indiana leading the way in innovation and advancement in the future of mobility and the global economy.”
