Renault Korea Motors announced on Sept. 15 that Renault Group’s key executives, including Renault Group Vice Chairman Luc Julia, visited Korea to inspect Renault Korea Motors’ new vehicle preparations and showed much anticipation for next year’s Aurora Project models, including a mid-size hybrid SUV.

Luc Julia, vice chairman and chief scientific officer (CSO) of the Renault Group, visited Renault Technology Korea in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on Sept. 13 to review the development of connectivity systems and services for Renault Korea Motors’ vehicles including new models. With his expertise and experience in interfaces and the Internet of Things (IoT), Julia has been contributing to the development of connectivity-related technologies that connect people and vehicles at the Renault Group.

This year, key Renault Group executives such as Gilles Vidal, vice president of design, have increasingly traveled to Korea to inspect Renault Korea Motors’ vehicle development. This is a move made in line with the company’s future vehicle strategy, which is strengthening its R&D capabilities in design, software, and electrification, and preparing hybrids and electric vehicles.

Vice Chairman Francois Provost, who served as CEO of Renault Korea from 2011 to 2016, visited Korea earlier this year in his capacity as Executive Vice Chairman, Purchasing and Strategic Partnerships of the Renault Group, to inspect the overall progress of the AURORA project, and pledged the active support of the Renault Group with great expectations.

Aurora is the name of Renault Korea Motors’ ongoing new model development project. The first Aurora model, a mid-size hybrid SUV, is based on the Geely Group’s CMA platform and next-generation hybrid system used by Volvo, Lynk & Co and others. It is being prepared for its launch in the Korean and international markets in the second half of next year.
