On Sept. 12, K-water revealed that its CEO Yoon Seok-dae held in-depth discussions with Ukraine’s Ambassador to Korea, Dmytro Ponomarenko, on cooperation strategies for Ukraine’s reconstruction.

This comes after President Yoon Suk-yeol announced at the G20 summit on the 10th that Korea would support Ukraine with US$2.3 billion, with the nation taking steps in solidarity with the international community. Following this, a delegation, including Minister Won Hee-ryong of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, is set to visit Ukraine to expedite Korea’s involvement in the reconstruction projects.

Ambassador Dmytro Ponomarenko’s visit symbolizes the aligned intent of the Korean government and K-water to actively participate in post-conflict infrastructure projects in Ukraine.

During their meeting, K-water CEO Yoon Seok-dae and Ambassador Ponomarenko shared major issues related to the damages and reconstruction in Ukraine. They also discussed potential collaboration using K-water’s expertise in water management and urban reconstruction.

Before the meeting, Ambassador Ponomarenko visited K-water’s Water Integrated Situation Room and Watershed Comprehensive Situation Room to observe state-of-the-art digital water management integrated with innovative technologies like AI and Digital Twins. In the afternoon, he visited Daecheong Dam to understand the water management facilities’ operation and management there as well.
