The Korean government will listen to the opinions of experts from various sectors to spread super-sized artificial intelligence (AI) not only to the science and technology fields but to all aspects of society such as law, medicine, education, and defense. It is planning to launch a project to support the construction of super-sized AI data by field beginning from 2024 based on this.

The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced that it will hold a launch ceremony for the AI Data Convergence Network, an industry-academia-research expert council for the spread of super-sized AI to all industries, at the ibis Ambassador Seoul Hotel on Sept. 8.

The AI Data Convergence Network, comprised of experts from major industries, was formed to share trends in the diffusion and convergence of AI in each industry and to quickly identify areas that need the timely supply of high-quality AI data.

The AI Data Convergence Network has about 10 members for each of the 10 strategic domains. The 10 strategic domains are legal, medical, education, intelligent administration, transportation and logistics, manufacturing and robotics, content, disaster, safety and environment, national defense and agriculture, and forestry and fisheries.

These areas were selected based on industry and government policies, a Delphi survey and expert opinions on market demand and impacts, construction and disclosure possibilities and technology leadership.

In the future, the AI Data Convergence Network will organize regular meetings by field to check demand for AI data in the field and discuss ways to accelerate the spread of AI across industries. Based on this, the MSIT plans to identify 5 to 10 ultra-large AI data construction tasks that require government support and link them to commercialization in 2024.
