SK Telecom presented a blueprint for 6G mobile communications in a keynote speech at the Innovative Optical & Wireless Network (IOWN) Global Forum, a global next-generation communications standards organization. Established in January 2020, the forum includes 125 big tech companies including NTT, Sony, Intel, and Microsoft and research labs.

SK Telecom will participate in the IOWN Global Forum’s sixth regular meeting in Munich, Germany from Sept. 5 to 7 (local time). The Korean wireless carrier delivered a keynote speech on the topic of “6G Evolution’s Direction” on the first day, introducing a 6G white paper it released in August. The speech included the results of the validation of next-generation mobile fronthaul technology in preparation for wired 6G networks.

The validation showed a reduction in power consumption by one-third compared to existing 5G fronthaul technology.
