On Aug. 31, Lotte Chemical announced that it has entered into a business agreement with the city of Cilegon, Indonesia, to bolster educational support and eco-friendly initiatives.

The agreement ceremony was held on the 30th at the Cilegon City Hall. Representatives included Lim Dong-hee from Lotte Chemical Indonesia (LCI), Lotte Chemical’s Communication Division Head Choi Young-kwang, and Cilegon City’s Mayor Helldy Agustian.

This marks the first case of Lotte Chemical’s social contribution collaboration with a foreign local government. Collaborating with the city, Lotte Chemical aims to establish quality education in the fields of science and environment within Cilegon schools. They will supply equipment and teaching aids to elementary schools and develop educational content for middle schools. There are also plans to run expert mentoring programs targeting university students and to operate specialized programs in science and environment.

In addition, through the establishment of environmental protection facilities and community-participation programs, Lotte Chemical aims to enhance a resource-circulation system and culture within the Cilegon community.

Meanwhile, Lotte Chemical is currently pushing the “LINE Project” by investing a total of US$3.9 billion into Indonesia, aiming for commercial production by 2025. This large-scale petrochemical complex is expected to produce 1 million tons of ethylene (EL), 520,000 tons of propylene (PL), and 250,000 tons of polypropylene (PP) annually.
