It has been found that the Apple iPhone 8 was the best-selling product in the global smartphone market in October.

According to MarketPulse, a market researcher on December 12, the iPhone 8 and the IPhone 8 Plus placed first and second in the world’s smartphone bestseller rankings with 4.6% and 4.0% market shares, respectively in October.

"Demand for the iPhone X resulted in sales of the iPhone 8 lower than sales of the previous iPhone 7," Counterpoint Research said. “Apple's earnings are expected to go up further in November when iPhone X sales are applied.”

The Galaxy Note 8, Samsung’s strategic smartphone for the second half of the year and the Galaxy S8 Plus for the first half of the year ranked third and fourth with 2.4% and 1.5% market shares, respectively. Samsung's total market share hit 21%, thanks to good sales performances of budget products such as the Galaxy A and J series in addition to premium products, Counterpoint Research said. Apple's share stood at 14 percent.

"Oppo and Vivo in China are showing strong performances in the budget smartphone market," Counterpoint researcher Lim Soo-jung said. "Samsung needs a strategy to maintain its share in the premium market in response to the high specifications of Chinese models."
