Welcoming Silicon Valley Veterans Rohit Puri and Sekwon Choi as Key Executives
Coupang Play, the fastest-growing OTT service in Korea, has completed its executive reinforcement within the engineering organization and is accelerating its efforts to enhance the product experience. The executives appointed by Coupang Play are Rohit Puri, Head of Engineering, and Sekwon Choi, Head of Streaming Technology. Both executives boast impressive track records of achievements in globally prominent tech companies.
Rohit Puri is responsible for overseeing all engineering aspects at Coupang Play. He will lead the technological development for various product experiences of Coupang Play, including strengthening content recommendation algorithms, device integration, streaming optimization, player enhancements, media search, and community features.
Notably, Rohit Puri, with expertise in machine learning and video streaming infrastructure, played a significant role at Netflix, leading cloud media systems, computer vision, natural language processing, media search, and multilingual subtitle technology organizations. His contributions were instrumental in Netflix's global success and even earned him the Emmy Technical Achievement Award in 2015. He also made substantial contributions while leading streaming infr astructure design during Twitch's transformation into the world's largest live streaming service. In addition, he has held leadership roles at companies like Adobe, Nvidia, and Cisco, overseeing video encoders and hardware development.
Sekwon Choi, as Head of Streaming Technology, is responsible for Coupang Play's streaming experience. His focus will be on developing key streaming technologies that store and deliver vast content data to customers across various viewing environments. Choi has a proven track record as a media tech expert, having led the development of device and playback experiences from early-stage to the most recent generations of Netflix’s streaming platform, setting standards in the OTT category as well as the Smart TV industry. He also oversaw media streaming features for Oculus VR headsets at Meta (formerly Facebook). His accomplishments span through renowned media and tech companies like Yahoo and Sony.
Coupang Play has significantly strengthened its entire tech organization with these newly appointed engineering executives. Alongside the engineering organization, the product team responsible for Coupang Play's product experience includes a number of product owners who have demonstrated their capabilities at various global companies such as Meta, Amazon, and Grab.
