Commercialize in Next Few Years
On Aug. 27, Hyundai Mobis announced its collaboration with Israel’s communication semiconductor design specialist, Autotalks, to develop a 5G-based Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) integrated controller.
Autotalks, recently acquired by Qualcomm, is recognized as a leader in V2X semiconductor design as described by Hyundai Mobis. Hyundai Motors had also made a strategic investment in Autotalks back in 2018.
The 5G-based V2X integrated controller that Hyundai Mobis and Autotalks are jointly developing stands out from the current Long-Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G method. This technology enables high-capacity, real-time data exchange between vehicles or between vehicles and infrastructure and is classified as a core technology for “Level 4 Autonomous Driving.”
To achieve full autonomy, vehicles must independently assess and control driving conditions. As such, the 5G-based V2X technology, which enables high-speed data exchange with the surrounding environment on the move, is essential.
Hyundai Mobis reportedly aims to commercialize this technology within the next 1-2 years.
