Samsung C&T said on November 24 that it won the project for the construction of the first double-deck underground expressway in Singapore. The bid price was 809.35 million Singapore dollars.

Launched by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, the project is to build a 1.25 km-long underpass, four entrance and exit ramps with a total distance of 3.34 km and ventilation buildings under existing roads with up to eight lanes. The construction area is a part of the North-South Corridor between Admiralty Road West and East Coast Parkway. The project is on a design-and-build basis and the construction is scheduled to be completed in November 2026.

The project is the first design-and-build project in Singapore since Marina Coastal Expressway construction in 2008. At that time, Samsung C&T built underground expressways in the C483 and C486 sections. Last year, Samsung C&T won a grand prize from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore for its work in the C483 section.

The upcoming project requires extremely sophisticated design work as a double-deck expressway should be built under existing roads. “The ordering agency preferred our different design and technology that can contribute to productivity maximization,” Samsung C&T explained.
