Sole Supplier of Disaster Smartphone
Samsung Electronics was selected as the sole provider of smartphones for the Emergency Service Network, the UK's next-generation disaster safety communication network system.
The UK is preparing to provide better networks and mobile devices for all workers involved in disasters and security including all police officers, firefighters and ambulance staffs with the Interior Ministry taking the lead.
Samsung Electronics is planning to supply LTE-based smartphones to provide various services such as mobile data service, live video streaming, and crime-related applications, as well as existing voice calls starting in 2018. The current disaster safety network offers voice calls only.
The smartphone to be supplied by Samsung Electronics is a specialized device that will have robust external design optimized for a disaster environment, be waterproof, offer disaster safety-related functions and a voice service. Samsung Electronics will also supply related accessories.
