Upgrading Industrial Complex
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation (KICOX) held the opening ceremonies for Changwon Smart Up Park and the Changwon Industry-Academy Convergence District in Gyeongsangnam-do at 11:00 am on November 3.
They held the events for the first time among industrial complexes across the nation after deciding Smart Up Park as the brand of the government's initiative to build convergence clusters at industrial complexes being promoted by the government as part of the Old Industrial Complex Upgrade project.
Changwon Smart Up Park aims to realize the concept of a convergence cluster which did not exist in the past for the first time in among industrial complexes across the nation by gathering subjects in economic innovation scattered at the Changwon Industrial Complex and creating a cluster for them so that they can cooperate with one another. The cluster will be built on KICOX’s idle land (37,400㎡) with a total budget of 248.1 billion won (60.2 billion won from the central government, 9.5 billion won from the local government and 178.4 billion won from the private sector).
First of all, the Changwon Industry-Academy Convergence District is running six machinery-related departments on the Industry-Academy Cooperation Campus in which Gyeongsang University, Kyungnam University and Masan University participated. The Corporate Research Hall will receive approximately 40 companies soon.
The Smart Up Tower (knowledge industry center) with 18 stories above ground and two basement floors will attract companies that run IT and high-tech knowledge companies that the Changwon Industrial Complex is short of and seek convergence with the traditional machinery industry and is scheduled to be completed in September of 2019.
