SK Broadband has completed the development of a ten-Gbps subscriber line solution which can transmit up to 2.5 Gbps to subscribers via a 4-pair UTP LAN cable.

SK Broadband announced on November 1 that the internet service provider completed the development of a ten-Gbps subscriber line solution which can transmit up to 2.5 Gbps to subscribers via a 4-pair UTP LAN cable together with the SK Telecom Network Technology Institute for the first time in Korea and was ready to commercialize the solution. This is a ten-Gbps internet transmission solution that can offer an internet service up to ten times faster than the existing one-Gbps internet service.

The ten-Gbps internet service provides subscribers with a speed of 2.5 Gbps to ten Gbps per line and 1 Gbps or more per terminal. The advanced service is up to ten times faster than the existing one-Gbps internet.

This service is needed for a surge in data to be kindled by the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) among others.

The existing one-Gbps internet is limited to 1Gbps, so subscribers may experience a slowdown in internet service speed when using simultaneous services such as wired high-speed internet, IPTV, and wireless Wi-Fi services. However, if the four-pair 2.5GHz solution is applied, you can use more than one-Gbps wired and wireless internet services at the same time.

SK Broadband also finished preparing to commercialize the NG-PON2 (Next Generation-Passive Optical Network 2) solution that can provide 40-Gbps trunk lines to guarantee a 2.5-Gbps speed per subscriber line. In particular, SK Broadband's NG-PON2 solution nabbed the top service award in the advanced ten-Gbps service solution sector at the BBWF-Broadband World Forum, the world’s largest international broadband wired network technology forum held in Germany this year.
